In mid-December 2016 the World Health Organization (WHO) established an Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Surveillance and Quality Assessment Collaborating Centres Network with a remit to support the development and improvement of global AMR surveillance capacity. The network members are drawn from 18 WHO Collaborating Centres and are responsible for the implementation of the 2017-2019 work plan. Four priority areas of work in this plan include,
- capacity building and technical support to microbiology laboratories,
- capacity building and technical support to surveillance systems,
- global AMR Surveillance System (GLASS) development,
- and increasing the understanding of the impact of AMR.
