The European Commission has announced the launch, in 2015, of a new €1 million prize on Diagnostics: Reducing the Mis-use of Antibiotics Prize. The Prize will reward a rapid test that can identify at the point of care patients with upper respiratory tract infections that can be managed safely without antibiotics. The Longitude Prize on Antibiotics
In order to tackle growing levels of antimicrobial resistance, the challenge set for the Longitude Prize is to create a cost-effective, accurate, rapid and easy-to-use test for bacterial infections that will allow health professionals worldwide to administer the right antibiotics at the right time.
